Washburn University's Department of Music invites applications for the position of Applied Trumpet. The position will begin on August 1, 2022. This position is a nine-month tenure track appointment as Assistant Professor. A completed doctorate is necessary for tenure-track appointments. This is one of three open tenure-track positions in the Department.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Music; ABD applicants will be considered with completion of the doctorate by May 2023.
  • Experience performing professionally in classical and jazz styles.
  • Experience teaching applied trumpet at the college level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience performing in multiple musical styles and traditions, including contemporary music and other popular idioms.
  • Experience with organizing and developing community music youth programs.
  • Experience teaching/coaching and performing in chamber ensembles.
  • Experience recruiting and maintaining a studio at the collegiate level.
  • Experience in writing or teaching composition and arranging.
Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill teaching expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online) or a full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook. Teach and develop courses consistent with candidate's training and interests for majors and non-majors as assigned and dependent upon department needs.
  • Serve as coordinator for the Washburn University Brass Division.
  • Serve as coordinator for Faculty Brass Quintet and member of the WU Faculty Jazz Quintet.
  • Serve as director of Jazz Studies with WU High School Jazz Festival and WU Summer Jazz Camp.
  • Recruitment and retention of music students.
  • Fulfill scholarly and creative expectations associated with the tenure-track appointment.
  • Maintain a public profile as a teacher and performer.
  • Fulfill service expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment by engaging in service activities in the Department, university, and profession.
