ATTENTION:

The Department of Educational Foundations in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track faculty member with specialization in educational technology and instructional systems design beginning August 2022.

JOB DETAILS:

This is a full-time position with primary responsibilities associated with the learning technology and instructional design coursework offered by the department’s Library Media and IDLT program areas (#2-3 above). As such, we welcome candidates with a K-12 background, as well as those with preparation and/or experience outside of K-12 education (i.e., instructional systems design, workplace learning, organizational training and development, etc.).

Teaching opportunities for this position will be taken from the following areas in accordance with the successful candidate’s qualifications:
  • Instructional design
  • E-learning production (Articulate)
  • Digital tools for learning and teaching
  • E-learning evaluation, learning analytics
  • Classroom technology integration
  • Leadership of technology-based learning initiatives
  • E-learning assessment, evaluation and learning analytics
  • Learning theories and instructional models in e-learning
  • Finding and using information (Library media emphasis)
  • Field placement supervision in K-12 library media
  • Practicum and capstone supervision in the IDLT program
Academic preparation should reflect one or more of the following areas: educational technology or digital media and learning, learning systems design, library media sciences, learning sciences, or a closely related field. Specialization is desired among the following- e-learning development, classroom technology integration, workplace training and learning development, leadership of technology-related initiatives/programs, emerging technology for learning, assessment and evaluation of e-learning.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D., Ed.D., or other equivalent, terminal degree in educational technology, learning sciences, library sciences, instructional design, eLearning development, or other closely related field. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2022; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2023 in advance of their first scheduled review. ABD candidates, please provide completion timeline in cover letter.
  • Teaching experience, or potential to teach, undergraduate or graduate-level courses related to the topics listed above in Teaching Opportunities (to be described in cover letter).
  • Established or emerging research agenda aligned with the core areas of the position.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Evidence of successful teaching both online and face-to-face at the post-secondary level
  • Experience and/or preparation in the areas of industry and workplace training and learning, implementation of e-learning initiatives, or other relevant professional experience.
  • Experience and/or preparation in the areas of school library media or library science.
  • Experience with Universal Design and instructional design models.
  • Evidence of leadership in technology and innovation as it pertains to instruction within or outside of K-12 education.
  • Evidence of successful higher education teaching experience.
  • Evidence of successful implementation of learning technologies in education or training.
  • Expertise, teaching, and/or research activity related to e-learning innovation, and universal design.
  • Experience with educational program coordination, administration, and/or marketing
  • Ability to supervise students in field experiences based upon area of specialization (i.e., library media and/or instructional systems design).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teaching responsibilities (4/4) involve teaching courses supporting the Library Media and Instructional Design and Learning Technology (IDLT) programs and will be drawn from the list of Teaching Opportunities (above). This will involve teaching online, hybrid, as well as on-campus, and may include day, evening and/or weekend courses.
  2. Research responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, and can include publications in peer reviewed journals or books, attending and presenting at research conferences, and grant writing.
  3. Service responsibilities include active participation in department meetings, committee service at the department, college, and university levels, as well as participation in professional and/or community organizations relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.
  4. Graduate and/or undergraduate student advising as assigned by the Department Chair
  5. Serving as a member of the program’s leadership, which includes participating in program coordination and marketing initiatives.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Department of Educational Foundations is a highly collegial, collaborative, and interdisciplinary department, which seeks to foster the development of knowledge, skills, and dispositions most vital to the work of outstanding educators. The department offers 4 categories of courses and programs:
  1. Undergraduate courses for pre-service education students intended to build the core foundations of educational psychology, history and philosophy of education, equity and diversity in education, as well as assessment, measurement and evaluation
  2. Developmental education courses in academic survival skills and college literacy designed to assist incoming students with the skills necessary for success at the University
  3. Programming for students pursuing initial K-12 library media licensure and master’s level students seeking a degree in Library Sciences
  4. Programming for graduate students interested in career paths related to instructional design and learning technologies
