Associate Professor or Professor (WOT), Med Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation, Pediatric Rehab

The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital are seeking a qualified individual to serve as Medical Director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit in the Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine. This full-time appointment will be at the rank of  Associate or full Professor (without tenure due to source of funding) in the Clinician-Educator or Clinician-Scientist pathway, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is a 12-month service period appointment (July 1-June 30) with an anticipated start date of summer 2022, but earlier or later dates will be considered.

The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington is a leading academic department that includes faculty at Seattle Children’s, Harborview Medical Center, the University of Washington Medical Center, and the VA Puget Sound Healthcare System. With more than 140 total salaried faculty and 70 physician faculty, UW Rehabilitation Medicine operates the largest Rehabilitation Medicine program in the Northwest region of the United States.

The Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at Seattle Children’s includes seven physicians, one advanced practice provider, four psychologists, 62 physical therapists, 39 occupational therapists and 32 speech and language pathologists; all are integral members of the department. The majority of Division faculty work takes place at Seattle Children’s. In partnership with service chief and inpatient leadership, the Medical Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Seattle Children’s will

1. manage the pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit, which serves children with complex medical conditions, children with tracheostomies and ventilators, etc.;
2. maintain a high functioning inpatient rehabilitation unit that meets standards of care related to the institution as well as outside regulating agencies;
3. track performance and implement continuous improvement associated with patient outcomes, safety, flow and experience;
4. develop, review, and implement policies to ensure quality medical care;
5. coach and mentor other physicians and trainees;
6. participate in inpatient and outpatient clinical service and contribute to the clinical education of residents and fellows;
7. lead and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

Required:

• Must have an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent)
• Must be board certified in Rehabilitation Medicine and either also (a) be board certified in Pediatrics or (b) have subspecialty certification in Pediatric Rehabilitation
• Licensed physician with a history of medical practice in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine
• Eligible to practice medicine in the state of Washington
• Faculty position at associate professor level or higher in Pediatric Rehabilitation or closely related area

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
