Research and Grant Development Specialist/Grant Writer

 

The University of Missouri (MU) invites applications for a Research and Grant Development Specialist/Grant Writer to support the Graduate School and our growing community of postdoctoral scholars. The MU Graduate School’s mission is to advocate for, support, and advance graduate and postdoctoral education. Within the Graduate School, the Office of Postdoctoral Education provides specialized programming and development for postdoctoral scholars from all disciplines across campus. The position will bring grant writing, grant management, and fellowship expertise to the Graduate School and our population of postdoctoral scholars and graduate students. The position will report to the Associate Dean of the Graduate School.

 

Position Description:

 

We seek a Research and Grant Development Specialist/Grant Writer to provide: 1) postdoctoral scholars and graduate students with grant writing training and programming; 2) individualized support to identify grants, fellowships, and early career award opportunities; 3) give grants advice, writing and editing support, and project management expertise; and 4) leadership in writing and managing the administration of grants for the Graduate School.  

 

Fully remote work is possible.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Coordinate and lead grants and fellowship programming on topics such as finding funding, proposal writing, early career awards, and fellowships for postdoctoral scholars and graduate students.
  2. Develop and lead cohort-based grant writing programs for the MU Research Excellence Program (REP) Postdoctoral Scholars and the Preparing Future Faculty – Faculty Diversity (PFFFD) Postdoctoral Scholars. Work with these scholars to provide group and individualized support as they apply for grants and early career awards.
  3. Provide support to faculty seeking to apply for training grants that will benefit graduate and postdoctoral education.
  4. Conduct program assessment for the professional development training activities led by this position to track effectiveness and outcomes.
  5. Identify, create, and maintain resources for external grants and fellowships, including templates and proposal support databases, and communicate these resources to the Graduate School and its constituents.
  6. Lead and manage the grant process through the proposal lifecycle – creating, editing, revising, submitting, and tracking application documents for Graduate School leadership.
  7. Track grant awards and create ongoing reports on awards, expenditures, and trends for the Graduate School.
  8. Collaborate with Graduate School leadership and staff to carry out strategic initiatives related to grants, fellowships, and research resources.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience in grant writing and grant management
  • Ability to work independently
  • Outstanding communications skills
  • Outstanding grant writing skills
  • Expert knowledge of early career awards and federal granting agencies and their procedures
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and comfortability in learning new software and techniques

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Master’s degree
  • 4 or more years of prior experience working in grant writing and grant management
  • Experience in proposal development at a research-intensive university
  • Fellowships expertise
  • Prior experience in leading professional development trainings
  • Public speaking experience
