Assistant Professor WOT, Academic Physiatrist specializing in Spinal Cord Injury

The University of Washington’s Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is offering an outstanding opportunity for an academic physiatrist, working primarily at the University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake and at Harborview Medical Center. This will be a full-time appointment with an annual service period of 12 months (July 1 – June 30), appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (without tenure due to source of funding) in the Clinician-Educator pathway. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2022.

Our patient and family-centered academic hospital-based rehabilitation program offers tertiary care for a five-state region, serving a wide range of diagnoses. This position practices in a collaborative and multidisciplinary academic environment. Opportunities will be available for building an academic career that includes clinical care, teaching, research opportunities, and program development.

The selected candidate will provide patient care in the outpatient clinic at UWMC-Montlake and will serve as attending on the HMC inpatient rehabilitation unit and the consult service. With a clinical focus on the treatment of spinal cord injury patients, the academic physiatrist will provide leadership to our SCI program at UWMC, including treatment of spasticity and baclofen pump management. The selected candidate also will participate in the care of patients with a broad range of general rehabilitation needs and will perform Electrodiagnostic testing. This position will participate in the teaching of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residents and medical students – primarily in a clinical setting and informal didactic sessions, but opportunities will be available for more formal teaching sessions, as well.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must

• have a medical degree (MD, DO, or foreign equivalent)
• be board-certified or board-eligible in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
• successful completion of residency training in an accredited PM&R program
• have or be eligible for medical licensure by the State of Washington

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or foreign equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
