Job Description:

The Ding Lab in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florida is looking for a highly self-motivated postdoctoral scientist who has a strong interest in engineering gut native bacteria for colorectal cancer research. This position is supported by a multiple-year, multi-institutional collaborative NIH grant.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will work independently and collaboratively to engineer native E. coli isolates from animals and humans using existing and new synthetic biology approaches to detect, report, and treat colorectal cancer. Selected engineered strains will be evaluated in the cell, organoids, and animal CRC models, mainly through existing collaborations, to characterize native bacteria-gut interactions and the roles and applications of native bacteria in CRC research. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Regularly reporting and discussing the results at group meetings and joint meetings with collaborator teams.
  • Assisting with grant development;
  • Performing routine lab maintenance and daily lab duties.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A recent PhD degree or equivalent international degree (within the past 2 years) in microbiology, metabolic engineering, chemical engineering, synthetic biology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in bacterial engineering/synthetic biology applications;
  • Experience in microbiome and cancer biology and metabolism is desired;
  • Self-motivation and independence;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
Being able to multi-task and keeping pace in a dynamic research environment
