Job Summary:
The Associate Vice President for Strategic Marketing is responsible for the overall research-based marketing messaging and branding activity for the College. The Associate Vice President represents and promotes the College, increasing its visibility and supporting the institution’s mission, vision, and goals. The Associate Vice President leads the development and implementation of the College’s brand vision and marketing strategy to attract and assist in retaining the best students. The Associate Vice President partners with the Advancement Division and Human Resources to engage alumni and donors and recruit high-quality faculty and staff. The Associate Vice President oversees the areas of Mailing, Images, & Print Services (MIPS), Web & Digital Marketing and Content & Project Management. In addition, the Associate Vice President provides strategic direction and coordinates marketing produced by other academic and administrative units as determined through strategic marketing plans.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Enrollment & Marketing Department.
  • Provides leadership and vision for the College’s strategic and integrated marketing functions.
  • Leads, supervises, and directs the marketing staff and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with all College departments.
  • Develops and executes a comprehensive, long-term, and proactive College-wide marketing and branding strategy consistent with the strategic goals, plans, and aspirations of the College.
  • Creates a collegial, team-building work environment, motivating staff and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with all constituent groups.
  • Partners with the Strategic Communications department in the Advancement Division to tell the College’s stories to create a consistent, unified message in support of the Columbia College brand, and articulates the College’s image and brand in the delivery of the College’s message to all constituents.
  • Serves as one of the College’s main brand managers, with the responsibility of positioning the College in the market, determining target audiences, and assist in maintaining the desired reputation.
  • Ensure brand core messages are used seamlessly in all areas of marketing, and the college.
  • Oversees the design and production of all marketing, recruitment-related publications, and advertising products.
  • Ensures effective and efficient operation of the major units in Marketing by coordinating unit plans, goals, and objectives, designing systems of effective controls to guide work toward expected outcomes, and evaluating progress towards their accomplishment.
  • Understands utilizing one CRM in conjunction with Admissions and Enrollment Services to drive enrollment and improve student experience from prospect to graduation.
  • Works closely with Technology Services to streamline front-facing processes digitally with the goal of the student experience.
  • Has an understanding and experience working with marketing and advertising budgets and ensures a fiscally sound operation of Marketing through setting and staying within an assigned budget each fiscal year.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree and related experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, business administration or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in marketing preferably in education, not-for-profit, government, business, or industry, is required.
  • At least three years of management and leadership experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in marketing or public relations
