Director, Center for Psychological Services

Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversee and is responsible for all activities associated with the Center. The Center serves the training needs of graduate and postgraduate students in full-time residence at the School. Additionally, it is a principle mental health resource for the University students and for members of our surrounding communities.

REPORTS TO: Dean

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Assure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures regulating proper care of all Center patients.
  2. Provide training cases for Derner doctoral students in all four years of full-time residence.
  3. Coordinate activities of part-time clinic faculty assigned to the doctoral program.
  4. Establish and coordinate supervisor network to support clinical training (testing and therapy).
  5. Respond to routine and emergency service requests from the University administrators.
  6. Manage clinic budget.
  7. Participate in executive board meetings and faculty meetings.
  8. Teach or supervise three-credits in the PhD program.
  9. Support research infrastructure for the Center, work with Research Standards Committee.
  10. Stand as a member on dissertation committees.
  11. Responsible for all clinical activities in the different clinics associated with the PhD program.
  12. Liaison with the Derner affiliated internship.
  13. Coordinate with postgraduate director and support postgrad clinic.
  14. Develop and maintain relationships between Derner and externship/internship sites.
  15. Coordinate application process of PhD students for internships.
  16. Participate in PhD student recruitment and admissions process.
  17. Assist the PhD program director with regard to the clinical training protocol.
  18. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Dean.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
  1. Strong interpersonal skills.
  2. Strong writing and verbal skills.
  3. Strong communication skills.
  4. Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  5. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ph.D. or PsyD in Clinical Psychology required.
  2. Postdoctoral Certificate in Psychotherapy preferred.
  3. NY State license in Psychology required.
  4. Minimum of five years postdoctoral experience treating outpatients in a mental health clinic required.
  5. Minimum of five years clinical supervisory and administrative responsibility in an outpatient mental health clinic, including staff development and recruitment, staff evaluation, and budget management required.

POSITION(S) SUPERVISED:
  1. Clinical Training Specialist (administrative assistant).
  2. Graduate Assistants.
