Position Summary:
The User Services Consultant for the College of Law is responsible for (a) providing technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, student employees, and students throughout the College, (b) providing support for academic programming involving legal technology, including both hardware and software, within the College of Law, (c) providing strategic thinking and planning support to the College of Law and its administration in order to ensure that the technology infrastructure within the College supports its broader educational mission, and (d) providing assistance as needed to other components of the WITS team in order to accomplish broader University technology goals.
The position requires both management of day-to-day operational tasks and community technology needs while also considering assisting with the planning of how to address current and future needs of the College of Law. The incumbent will work collaboratively with Faculty, Staff and Students across the Law School and with IT and business colleagues across the University to pursue Law School objectives to ensure that the Law School capitalizes on University investments and provides the best solutions for the community. The person in this role works independently and, when necessary, as a team member on a wide variety of projects that have a distinct impact upon the operation of the College of Law and, when appropriate, other parts of the university. The position involves a significant level of contact with students, faculty and staff as well as with individuals and organizations outside of the University. The employee may be required to travel locally and nationally to attend conferences and training sessions.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Serves as the initial point of contact for the College of Law
faculty, staff, students and student groups with questions
regarding computing and network equipment, software and the
implementation of technology. Researches and recommends solutions
as necessary.
- Coordinates technology support and provision of
technology-related services for the College of Law including, but
not limited to the network, computing devices and peripheral
equipment, the College's web presence, administrative information
systems and audio-visual equipment, and examination software. This
support includes work with the faculty, staff, and students within
the Clinical Law program, which involves specialized needs such as
maintenance of student labs and Clinic Practice Management
software.
- Interacts with additional WITS staff in order to help meet
College of Law needs, as well as to provide assistance and support
with wider University WITS needs as available.
- Confers with the College of Law administration (including the
deans, library director, and faculty committees) on a regular basis
regarding priorities for technology within the College of Law for
both long-and short-term implementation, involving other WITS staff
as appropriate.
- Develops familiarity as necessary with the role of technology
in legal education, law libraries, and law practice management in
order to support technological development and strategic planning
for technology-based improvements within the College of
Law.
- Oversees the operation of technology infrastructure within the
College of Law for which WITS is responsible.
- Serves as a member of the WITS User Services group.
Participates in meetings of the User Services group and contributes
to finding solutions to technology problems pertinent to all
segments of the University community.
- Helps prepare and disseminate information, e.g. documentation,
handouts, newsletters, and web pages regarding WITS
services.
- Conducts training sessions on topics of particular expertise
and works with individuals or small groups as necessary to support
use of technology.
- Supports other members of the WITS User Services groups as
needed.
- Continually seeks opportunities to proactively improve the
computing environment at the College of Law and Willamette
University.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination of education, training or experience that
provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform
the essential functions of the position. A bachelor's degree is
highly recommended; one in a field related to one or more of the
above departments is highly desirable.
- Minimum of two years of experience working user services in a
networked computing environment or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience creating user documentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
- Consulting with users on various software, hardware and network
problems.
- Operation and trouble-shooting of computers, tablets,
smart-phones and other peripheral devices.
- Support of Microsoft and Apple operating systems.
- Supporting users with applications including but not limited to
Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud
applications.
- Creation and maintenance of web pages via a content management
system.
- Consulting with users on various software, hardware and network
problems.
- A proven customer service orientation with excellent
interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work with a broad range of educational
technologies and to remain current in the field.
- A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an
ability to match technical opportunities to University
goals.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse colleagues,
students, and community members, and actively engaging in learning
and practicing the principles of equity, inclusion, and
diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a field of study related to
the above listed departments.
- Experience supporting information technology in higher
education.
- Experience in law practice technology and/ or legal education
technology.
- Experience in development of instructional
materials.
- Experience programming in one or more modern computer
language(s) and relevant experience beyond the minimum
requirement.
Salary: $23.82 per hour
Typical Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
