Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Athletics Development, this position manages the execution and operations of the Furman Athletics Fund, prioritizing efforts for the Paladin Scholarship Fund. This position manages an annual giving portfolio, raising funds to advance the university's fundraising priorities for Athletics. The Assistant Director assists in the management and execution of day-to-day operations in the areas of revenue generation, stewardship, prospecting, and game day hospitality for alumni, friends, parents, season ticket holders, and other key constituents.

Job Description:

Essential Functions
  • Successfully Advance the Philanthropic Mission of Furman Athletics: Manage a donor portfolio of annual fund prospects, contributors of $500 to $10,000 annually, and be responsible for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of each;
  • Lead Athletics Annual Giving Initiatives: Execute designated plans to reach department goals, prioritizing the annual $1,000,000 Paladin Scholarship Fund goal;
  • Collaborate to Maximize Philanthropic and Revenue Opportunities: Assist with development and execution of prospecting and identification initiatives that seek to engage alumni, season ticket holders, premium seat holders, parents, and corporate partners;
  • Engage with Key Constituent Groups: Be the primary Athletics Development liaison for key constituents including student-athlete parents, former student-athletes, and young alumni;
  • Provide Exceptional Donor Experience: Contribute to multiple development operations, including stewardship and solicitation initiatives, communications, benefits fulfillment, gift processing, reporting and acknowledgement processes, game-day hospitality, and other special events;
  • Expand Donor Engagement Opportunities: Coordinate and execute a variety of donor-centric events including, but not limited to football tailgates, basketball pregame gatherings, and conference tournament hospitality;
  • Continue Tradition of Excellence Across Campus: Manage development and execution Athletics' efforts for Dins Day, the annual university giving day. This includes assisting with matching gift solicitation and management, creating marketing materials and messages, preparing data accurately, and stewarding Dins Day donors effectively;
  • Assist with Volunteer Management: Contribute to facilitation of the Furman Athletics Fund Board, promoting increased participation among constituent groups;
  • Create a positive environment that will expedite the efforts, and maximize the impact, of processes undertaken by development team members to drive continued philanthropy to Furman Athletics;
  • Identify opportunities for increased program efficiency, effectiveness, and expediency across all unit program activities;
  • Maintain absolute integrity and confidentiality in all situations, especially donor information and confidentiality;
  • Perform other related duties as requested.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, sales, or other similar industries.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree;
  • Prior experience in higher education;
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proven success in fundraising and campaigns;
  • Expertise and success with annual giving fundraising and national best practices;
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills; excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to write concept papers, proposals, and grants;
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and event management skills;
  • Ability to develop and monitor budgets and schedules;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies;
  • Resourcefulness in finding appropriate solutions to problems and initiative in presenting alternatives and implementing solutions to ensure effective change. Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects;
  • Use initiative to organize and follow through with complex tasks to meet deadlines;
  • Skill to use a personal computer and computer software programs at the level of sophistication required for the development office. Proven ability to use MS Office Suite and database programs. Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Encompass traits of good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with colleagues and constituents;
  • Knowledge of annual giving fundraising principles and able to participate in a complex development program, especially within an educational organization;
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations, and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
