Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Housing & Residence Life for Finance and Administration, the Assistant Director for Communications has general responsibilities for department communications, online systems management, and management of the office.

Job Description:

Responsibilities:
  • Leads the department's communication strategy to students, families, and campus partners.
  • Develops and implements department communication plan(s).
  • Prepares departmental messages to students, families, and campus partners.
  • Executes the department's administrative conversations with students and their families
  • Maintains the department website and social media accounts.
  • Serves as Department of Housing and Residence Life and Division of Student Life representative to Workday.
  • Responsible for training for and daily management in Workday for the Division of Student Life.
  • Participates in Division of Student Life on-call crisis management rotation.
  • Serves as department liaison to Admissions, Enrollment Services, Information Technology Services, Parent and Family Programs, and University Communications.
  • Manages the daily operations of the Housing and Residence Life office.
  • Follows safety procedures.
  • Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and University goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of the goals and objectives of the Division of Student Life.


Relationships:
  • Daily contact with members of own work unit and immediate supervisor, student, and student workers to plan, coordinate, solve problems or present information related to mutual goals.
  • Frequent contact with parents, public, University Communications, Parent and Family Programs, to plan, coordinate, solve problems or present information related to mutual goals.


Responsibility for Final Decisions:
  • Reviews work to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines.
  • Responsible for own work.
  • Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes and steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying the established rules and procedures.
  • Errors are readily detected within the department or section in which they occur but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and make corrections.


Reports To: Associate Director for Finance and Administration, Housing and Residence Life
  • Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.


Education/Skill Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years student affairs and/or housing administration, or a related field.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience in online databases, office software, including word processing and spreadsheets required.


Work Conditions:
  • Work is performed under usual office conditions.
  • Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure or request for exception is required.
