Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director, Multicultural Affairs in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

 

Primary Job Duties:  Develop and deliver multicultural events and programming, including, but not limited to, the Powerful Connections Program, Peer Mentor/Mentee Program, Academic Monitoring, the Multicultural Festival and the Multicultural Leadership Summit. Implement and evaluate cultural programs that contribute to the enrichment of the University community and the development of ethnic identity through theme-based events and activities. Support the operations and organizations of the Center for Equity, Justice and Inclusion as well as provide support to the members of the Multicultural Alliance organizations. Assist with initiatives to support the recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty, staff and students. Assist students by providing ombuds services upon request. Select, train and supervise department graduate assistants and student-workers.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Three to five years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Higher Education or a related field. Experience in mentoring traditionally underrepresented students and in an education setting is required. 

 

The ability to handle crisis situations that impact students of diverse backgrounds should be demonstrated. Must be competent in handling personal and sensitive information that pertains to students and employees.  Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills.  Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred. Experience in advising student organizations; in supervising office staff and students; in working with diverse populations is preferred. Working knowledge of diversity education and training is desired. Demonstrated abilities in advising and providing leadership training for diverse student populations is also preferred.

 

This is a full-time, exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.  This position may be required to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
