Job Summary:
The Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation invites candidates to apply for an exciting opportunity as the Application Developer in the Research Information Technology Division. This position will serve as one of the developers for the Research Administration Management System (RAMS). RAMS consists of 6 modules supporting the research enterprise in grant submission and management, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol management/review, conflict of interest management, export control, and core research service billing/invoicing.
Typical Duties
- Implement detailed technical specifications in the RAMS system using a combination of predefined functions and methods as well as developing/writing application specific code using Javascript
- Work to Improve the product experience
- Be responsible for iterating on new products and features through collaboration with analysts and stakeholdersApp
- Assist in the development of new applications
- Write accessible and maintainable JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
- Support the development of C# and Javascript extensions to vendor provide utilities
Minimum Qualifications
- Relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- Knowledge of Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS/SASS, SQL (including Microsoft SQL)
- Experience building user-friendly features and software components with good performance
- A solid technical understanding of how to build systems and UI patterns, whilst working within a complex set of technical constraints.
- The ability to communicate design goals and processes clearly and concisely to other team members and stakeholders.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical requirements
- Be self-motivated and seek to evolve your skills and share what they’ve learnt with others.
- The candidate should have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with build management tools such as Gulp, Grunt, or Brunch
- Experience with automated/unit testing
- Exposure to university research principles or experience with research administration
Salary Range: 41,200 - 60,000
