Summary
The Department of Health Informatics and Data Science and the Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research ( CHOIR ) at Loyola University Chicago invites applications for an immediate postdoctoral research position opening in health informatics. We are encouraging applicants with strong research background in the area of data science, machine learning, and natural language processing with a focus on healthcare applications.

Expectations
The selected candidate will work with Dr. Tootooni to conceptualize research studies, design the method and modeling, perform the data analysis, present/attend at national and international conferences, and draft manuscripts (papers and proposals). This is a wonderful opportunity for junior scientists to get involved with hands-on programming to apply artificial intelligence on healthcare practices and to join and shine in multi-institutional collaborative projects with wonderful scholars. If the selected candidate seeks an academic career in health or biomedical informatics, this position will grant him/her the opportunity to work with excellent scientists and clinicians from with Loyola University Chicago, Mayo Clinic, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Loyola University Medical Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, etc.

Qualifications
Candidates must have a doctorate degree in Medical Informatics, Computer Science, or other related field. Advanced knowledge in computer programming (preferably R or Python), machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and applied statistics are required. Preferred candidates will have experience in working with EHR data and health ontologies such as SNOMED CT, ICD, and UMLS .

This is a one-year postdoctoral research position; however, it is extendable on yearly-basis depending on the budget availability and performance. Department/Center
The Department of Health Informatics and Data Sciences is one of four departments hosted in the new Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health. It is a highly interdisciplinary department with a strong focus on using informatics approaches and data science to improve health outcomes and reduce health disparities. The department is located on Loyola’s Health Sciences Campus in Chicago’s western suburbs at the Center for Translational Research and Education ( CTRE ). This state-of-the-art facility brings together the Stritch School of Medicine, Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, The Graduate School, and Loyola University Health System on an exciting cooperative journey with one unified goal—the rapid translation of fundamental science discoveries into real treatments for human health.
