About SUNY Oneonta:

The Department of Political Science at the State University of New York College at Oneonta invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Political Science with a focus on Political Theory. The appointment begins Fall 2022 and is part of a cohort of eight new faculty who have a strong interest in one or more aspects of Sustainability, as defined in the UN initiative around the Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the cohort, this position will have the opportunity to participate in cross-disciplinary teaching initiatives. The ideal candidate is a scholar with primary specialization in justice, democracy, and citizenship. Applicants with expertise in aspects of the African diaspora, Ibero-America, and other marginalized perspectives are welcome to apply.

The Political Science Department has seven full-time professors, one of whom shares a joint appointment with the Department of Africana and Latinx Studies. The department offers courses in political theory, American politics, comparative politics, and international relations. The department houses vibrant programs in Political Science and International Studies; the latter offers tracks in international development and culture and society. Job Description:

Duties include but not limited to: teaching and developing courses in political theory, including a required introductory theory course, and teaching additional courses in a second subfield; conducting research in the candidate's area of expertise; serving on departmental and college-wide committees; advising students, and engaging with the larger community.


Requirements:

Required qualifications: terminal degree (ABD considered; completion required by date of appointment) in Political Science or closely related field with primary specialization in political theory; ability to teach undergraduate courses in political theory and in a second disciplinary subfield.

Preferred: training in theories of justice, democracy, and citizenship; expertise in additional areas such as ecological, critical, or postcolonial political thought; ability to expand the department's course offerings on the intersectionality of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and environmental justice; experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or service with diverse and/or multicultural populations.
