The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is actively seeking a Director
as a key leader within the Advancement
Team. This is a dynamic role, one which will take advantage
of the leader’s talents and competencies to progress and enhance
relationships with donors while fulfilling the strategy of the
Advancement team. We are seeking an individual who embraces
and is motivated by the essential
role that Advancement
has within the JAX’s mission: to discover precise genomic solutions
for disease and empower the global biomedical community in the
shared quest to improve human health.
The Director will provide leadership through strategic
planning, implementation, and execution in support of internal and
external stewardship at The Jackson Laboratory. This includes
– but is not necessarily limited to – donor relationship
management; alumni relations and strategy; CRM and database
management; prospect research and management; budgetary oversight;
ethical CASE reporting; endowment spending oversight and review;
and annual reporting.
Reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the
Director will employ his/her experience, knowledge and expertise to
lead his/her team by employing a standard of best practices in
support of the introduction and maintenance of the highest
standards of accuracy, efficiency and productivity as a leader on
the Advancement team.
Oversee CRM and database management; reporting; gift
and biographical records management; and gift processing and
accounting in accordance with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education
(CASE). Ensure data discipline and integrity across all
Develop and manage budgets that support operational
growth and success.
In collaboration with Director colleagues, lead a
successful internal and external stewardship program that includes
proper reporting and an annual policy document providing clear and
appropriate standards for principal gifts officers to
utilize. Through proper stewardship, strategically target
alumni and donors – particularly at the principal gifts level – in
order to renew, upgrade, and strengthen their financial support for
and engagement with JAX.
Unify and operationalize all systems, resources,
policies and requirements for donor tracking, moves management,
integrated field activity measurements and related complex
projects. Provide leadership and strategic vision for
prospect research, relationship management and analytics with
business intelligence to support principal gifts development and
solicitations, as well as comprehensive campaign initiatives.
Tracks and ensures endowments and other giving
accounts are utilized appropriately in keeping with donor
Sustained and incremental improvement of database
integrity and overall accuracy of team work product.
Tracking stewardship statistics specific to alumni
engagement and alumni giving.
Work to build relationships within the JAX community
to enhance the internal stewardship of endowments.
Collaboration with Director colleagues in order to
lead and make leadership decisions for the Advancement
Bachelor’s degree, graduate degree preferred, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least ten (10) years of experience in a managerial
or leadership position in information technology, prospect
management and research and traditional donor relations.
Extensive knowledge and experience with the principles, best
practices and techniques relevant to complex fundraising

motivating a work team, including organizing work flow to
accomplish established objectives, delegating responsibility,
training, mentoring, and evaluating individual and team
Proven ability to analyze and synthesize information;
