Position Overview:

Provide guidance and counseling to students in matters related to academic goals, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, and course scheduling. Complete degree checks for individual students and student groups as needed. Assist with student orientation, whether freshman or transfer students. Develops and/or completes college/school document such as classroom assignments, plans of study, curriculum guides, graduation forms, and study abroad documentation. Serve as a resource for the university's student database including coordinating input, generating reports, training users, and recommending updates. Verify/report student and course information which may include (but not limited to) class rolls, grades, academic certification of athletes/veterans, statistical analyses, and/or forced drops. Evaluate and/or update student records in order to post grades, do graduation checks, monitor student progress, and advise students on an appropriate course of study. May assist with recruitment of prospective students.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Provide guidance to students regarding academic planning by completing degree evaluations, articulating coursework, and assisting with the application process for the RN to BS track primarily through virtual media such as live chat, video chat, email, or social media; create and support initiatives to encourage degree completion. 30%

Serve as a liaison between students and various campus resources such as academic departments, admission committees, graduation support, and academic advising utilizing a holistic approach to student success. Act as a liaison between the Nursing department and RN to BS students. 30%

Act as a liaison to the RN to BS coordinator, attending department meetings and consulting with department chairpersons as needed. As as a liaison between the Nursing department and other offices on campus. Participate in recruitment events and represent UCO nursing at health fairs and RN to BS specific events. 20%

Identify enrollment barriers for students and work with internal and external stakeholders to assist students in navigating University processes and support process improvement for UCO Connected Campus student support services. 10%

Monitor and track student records to ensure persistence, good academic standing, and progress toward completion. 10%


Qualifications Required:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Education, or related field. Knowledge in the higher education attainment process, particularly the requirements and general value of education. Must be proficient in basic mathematics. Some experience in admissions and enrollment process. Demonstration of a warm and caring professional attitude and creative counseling techniques.

Qualifications Preferred:

Master's degree. Prior academic advising/counseling experience. Familiarity with admission and enrollment process at the University of Central Oklahoma or in an institution of higher education setting and its undergraduate degree programs. Willingness to work within the academic framework of the University and to serve on faculty and student committees. Ability to community effectively with department chairpersons and/or deans regarding degree program requirements. Ability to work well under pressure.
