Primary Duties
Under general direction, the incumbent undertakes a wide range of high-level research projects and data analytics in alignment with university priorities and institutional accountability. Helping to shape a culture of inquiry and data-informed decision-making.

The incumbent conducts analytical studies utilizing sound project methods and design and participates in the following areas: data quality assurance and integrity checking; working with data warehouse technical staff on the programming and machine processing of data; survey administration/analysis; and building data dashboards. Utilizing qualitative and quantitative analysis of data related to enrollment/retention/graduation trends, the incumbent executes research studies, interprets the data, presents research findings, and effectively disseminates the findings with university constituents in such a way that they will be useful for decision-making and institutional improvement.

Must possess:
Thorough knowledge of:
  • Research techniques, including the planning of studies and investigations.
  • Determining of variables and the developing of reference materials.
  • Data analysis techniques such as correlation methods, trend analysis, frequency distribution analysis, sampling, hypothesis testing, and methods of interval estimation.
  • Research reporting techniques, and preparation of research reports.
  • Determining variables and developing reference material.
  • Proficient use of standard office software packages such as, Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
General knowledge of:
  • Database querying in environments such as Microsoft SQL and Oracle.
  • Programming and use of data modeling tools, such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, Python and R or similar applications.
  • Data presentation tools, such as Excel, SPSS, Tableau, Cognos or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with the principles of personnel management and effective supervision.

Required Education and/or Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university (Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis).
AND
Three years of progressively responsible technical research or statistical experience including or supplemented by one year in the interpretation and graphic presentation of data.
  • Graduate study in the social sciences, economics, mathematics, statistics, public or business administration, or engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements for this Position
Will consider option to work Hybrid (telecommuting) 2-3 days per week. Recruitment Preferences
PREFERENCES : Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
  • Bilingual.
  • Highly proficient in using statistical and productivity software such as R, SPSS, Python, and Excel to transform, clean, analyze, and manage data; report statistics; create tables, graphs, and presentations. Other transferable skills may consist of tools like STATA and SAS .
  • Experience using Cognos Analytics, Tableau, Power BI, or similar software for display of data.
  • Able to understand policy issues in higher education, particularly pertaining to undergraduate students at a selective public university.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize, and generalize based on analysis of data.
  • Advanced degrees in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings on campus for meetings and events.
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed in a typical office environment operating standard office equipment and specialized software. Position involves frequent interaction with all members of Institutional Research, Data Services, & Testing, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs organizations, and other functional and technical members of the campus community.
