Job Description Summary:
The Department of Professional Counseling invites applications for an assistant professor beginning in the 2022-23 academic year (to start June 2022). This position is a twelve (12) month appointment which will require teaching eight (8) course sections per year providing that expectations for scholarship and service per CACREP are met. Opportunities exist for departmental leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education (or were fully assigned to a Counselor Education program prior to July 1, 2013)
- Professional identity as a counselor/counselor educator
- Licensed or license-eligible in Missouri as an LPC
- Commitment to the professional field of counselor education as evidenced by education, teaching, counseling experience, research, and professional affiliations, such as ACA, ACES, AMHCA, and/or NBCC
- Experience in teaching graduate level courses
Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership qualities and/or leadership experience. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders to envision high quality master’s level counseling programs across multiple campus sites and modalities. Experience with successfully seeking and/or maintaining CACREP accreditation, active involvement in ACA and/or its divisions, demonstrated commitment to diversity and culturally-responsive teaching and supervision.
Essential Duties
The successful candidate will teach graduate classes in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling emphasis. The candidate must be able to:
- Teach eight courses per academic year in the CACREP core and clinical mental health specialty as assigned by the department chair
- Teach primarily in person but with some potential for teaching online (synchronous, asynchronous, or a combination) as needed
- Maintain an active scholarly/professional development agenda
- Supervise master’s level students in mental health counseling practicum and internship field placements
- Assist with maintenance of accreditation
- Fulfill service responsibilities to the department, college, and university, including advancing the counseling profession.
The candidate will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Professional Counseling, the College of Arts & Sciences, and community partners. This position is at the Webster Groves (St. Louis) campus. Position will remain open until filled.
