The Department of Public Relations in the University of Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) invites applications for a full-time (nine- or twelve-month) non-tenure accruing, public relations lecturer position to begin in August 2022. Our talented, diverse and engaged students need you to bring your skills, experience and wisdom to our classrooms.

We’re looking for a colleague who is a change-maker with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following communications areas: Social media, digital communications, influencer relations, corporate communications, cultural competence, social change and activism, international public relations, pop culture, sports, fashion, tourism or entertainment. We seek a colleague who understands the specific experiences of historically marginalized groups in the U.S.

We have an acute need to build our curriculum related to communicating for diversity, inclusion, equity and access. We are particularly interested in candidates who contribute to the diversification of perspectives to our program.

Our core undergraduate curriculum includes courses in writing, principles, research, ethics and campaigns. We are interested in candidates with excellent writing skills.

The Department of Public Relations is one of the top public relations programs in the country, with eight tenure-track faculty members, one endowed chair in public interest communications, and five professional faculty, for a total of 14 faculty members. It currently serves over 650 undergraduate majors, 255 master’s students, and 22 Ph.D. students. The Department consistently is ranked among the top three public relations programs in the United States and enjoys an excellent international reputation.

The Department of Public Relations is committed to educating the standard bearers of the profession for an interdependent local and global society. With the support of the department, public relations students recently founded the nation’s first Hispanic Public Relations Student Association and the second chapter of the Black Public Relations Student Society. The public relations undergraduate program is certified (CEPR) by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The department faculty advises UF’s award-winning Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, and Alpha PRoductions, a student-run public relations agency. The faculty also fields a team of students each year for PRSA’s Bateman Competition.

Minimum Requirements:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in public relations, communications or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in public relations, communications or a related field is required.
  • Applicants must have at least five years of professional communications experience.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level is a plus. Special consideration will be given to applicants with recent frontline experience in the field.
  • Evidence of effective guiding and coaching students in a classroom environment.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in public relations. The faculty member may teach and supervise graduate students. Candidates will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, engage in governance and other service activities, and demonstrate interest in contributing to online education, diversity, and the internationalization of the college and university.
