Job Description:

The Ding Lab in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florida is looking for a self-motivated postdoctoral scientist who has a strong interest in natural product biosynthesis, new enzymology, and synthetic biology research. The Ding lab is part of the UF Center for Natural Products, Drug Discovery and Development (CNPD3, https://cnpd3.pharmacy.ufl.edu ) that embraces all aspects of natural products research from discovery, biosynthesis and chemical synthesis, assay development, screening and target identification to drug development.

Work independently and collaboratively to discover novel natural products and enzymology through genome mining, chemical biology and synthetic biology research. Additional duties of the role will include, but are not limited to:
  • Identifying gene clusters of novel types of natural products through developing/applying bioinformatics tools;
  • Characterizing the biosynthesis of novel natural products by developing/using interdisciplinary approaches;
  • Characterizing and applying new enzymology in natural product biosynthesis;
  • Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Assisting grant development;
Performing routine lab maintenance and daily lab duties.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) required by the appointment start date. The candidate may have no more than three years of post-degree research experience by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated expertise in the fields of natural product biosynthesis and bioinformatics;
  • Demonstrated expertise in synthetic biology applications;
  • Self-motivation and independence;
  • Being able to multi-task with multiple projects and keeping pace in a dynamic research environment;
