Job Description:

The University of Florida has launched an ambitious fundraising and hiring initiative to position itself among the nation’s best public research universities. In engineering, the recent naming of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering with a $50 million gift is catalyzing a $300 million transformation that includes faculty expansion to 300 total, new collaborative facilities, and innovative educational initiatives.

In line with these goals, the J. Crayton Pruitt Family Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Florida will be recruiting two full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty at the rank of assistant professor.

RESEARCH AREAS: We are seeking candidates to lead research programs at the interface of (1) artificial intelligence and multi-omics data science and (2) artificial intelligence and neuroscience. Hired faculty will teach courses in AI and computing in BME, conduct research in AI applied to BME applications with an expectation of collaboration across departments and colleges, publish research results in nationally recognized journals and conference proceedings, disseminate research at national and international conferences, obtain funding from external and internal sources to support their research activities, supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research and teaching, perform service at the department through committee participation, and provide service to the professional community (e.g., peer manuscript review, grant reviews, conference organization).

Candidates will be evaluated based on the area of fit for the department and the potential to form collaborations and success at UF. Candidates will also be evaluated on past research and teaching contributions and records of success, including teaching experience and philosophy, publications and conference participation in the field, ability to secure independent awards and/or grants (fellowships), and contributions to outreach and diversity efforts.

Expected Salary:

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or related engineering or quantitative field. Applicants must have an outstanding record of research accomplishments, a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education in biomedical engineering, and a commitment to professional service. The successful applicant will be expected to teach biomedical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses, maintain a strong sponsored research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty in and outside the department, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.
