Job Description:

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for a twelve-month, full-time, time-limited non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering at the University of Florida. This position is housed within the LearnDialogue group (learndialogue.org), an interdisciplinary lab that builds artificial intelligence and spoken conversational interfaces to support teaching and learning. The portfolio of projects within the LearnDialogue group spans elementary, middle, and high school K-12 as well as undergraduate computer science education. The successful candidate will be expected to lead software development efforts for research projects in collaboration with the projects’ lead faculty. The ideal candidate will be experienced with multiple current programming languages and with frameworks for full-stack web development. The ideal candidate will also have experience leading software development projects and mentoring others.

UF recently announced a $70 million artificial intelligence partnership with NVIDIA to create an AI-centric data center that houses the world's fastest AI supercomputer in higher education. The Department of CISE in the HWCOE is a vibrant, multidisciplinary highly collaborative environment, consistently ranked among the top departments for both graduate and undergraduate programs. It offers BA, BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, with an enrollment of 3,055 undergraduate students and 515 graduate students of which 170 are PhD students. The CISE department currently has 58 faculty. Collectively, the list of achievements and awards received by the faculty include one Fulbright Scholar; 17 NSF CAREER Award winners; eight IEEE Fellows; four ACM Fellows; three AAAS Fellows; one IEEE Computer Society Taylor L. Booth Education Award; one IEEE Computer Society W. Wallace-McDowell Award; and one ACM Karl Karlstrom Outstanding Educator Award. The Department's external research expenditures were over $9.4 million last year. Research is central to the success of the program, and new faculty will be expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored research and graduate training programs. Applicants with a Ph.D. in an appropriate area, or an M.S. with appropriate experience and knowledge, are encouraged to apply.
