Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure-track) to begin in August 2022. The department is home to a vibrant community of 26 full-time faculty who share a strong commitment to teaching, to diversity, and to mentoring undergraduate students in research, both as independent researchers in a well-established honors program and as research assistants to faculty. We seek a colleague who will be a dedicated teacher, an active scholar, and an effective mentor for students from diverse backgrounds, with varied preparation for learning and a wide variety of career goals. We are looking for an individual with a degree in cognitive psychology, biological psychology, neuroscience, or a closely related discipline. Preference will also be given to those applicants with previous teaching experience. Responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate courses in research methods and in one or more of the following broad categories: cognitive psychology, biological bases of behavior, neuroscience, health psychology, or the candidate’s area of specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence as a teacher and advisor and to develop an active research program involving undergraduate students. Candidates should have completed or be near completing a relevant Ph.D. by the start date. A completed Ph.D. is preferred; however, ABD candidates will be considered but must have the Ph.D. earned by the first personnel review in Spring 2023. Candidates from diverse backgrounds and those who have experience working with diverse populations are particularly encouraged to apply. Academic year salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, with excellent fringe benefits and insurance programs. Review of candidates will be continuous with a first review date of January 3, 2022.

The College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities ( CASSH ) includes departments and programs in the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies, as well departments in the School of Visual and Performing Arts ( VPA ).

CASSH / VPA is dedicated to providing quality innovative instruction and creative learning experiences which prepares students for future careers and education. More broadly, such learning allows students to continue to develop meaningful, responsible lives. Graduates of the college will have developed the ability to communicate effectively, to think critically, to conduct sound research, to understand complex issues, to use knowledge in all aspects of life, to participate meaningfully as global citizens, and to discover and apply carefully considered values.
