The Position: Assistant Tenure-Track Professor in Plant Physiology

Position Starts: August 2022

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a Plant Physiologist with a Ph.D. in Botany, Biological Sciences, or a related field. At least one year of postdoctoral experience is required. Teaching or mentoring experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

We encourage candidates with research interests in climate change and fire impacts on local forest and shrubland plants. Preference will be given to Bilingual candidates and candidates that have experience as primary instructor for at least one course.

Responsibilities:

This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department. Assignments may include introductory courses in ecology, evolution, and physiology, as well as upper division or graduate classes in plant physiology and the candidate’s area of expertise. Classroom hours vary depending on course type, but typically range from 10-14 hours per week. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program involving undergraduate and master’s students. Research space, startup funds, and release time in the first two years of the appointment will be provided to help establish the research program. Service duties include undergraduate advising of biology majors, and committee work.

The Department:

The Department of Biological Sciences includes 20 full-time faculty, 25 master’s students, and 500 undergraduate biology majors with options in cell & molecular biology; ecology, evolution, and organismal biology; or plant biology, as well as 90 microbiology majors in general or clinical lab microbiology.

Department programs are enhanced by diverse laboratory and field facilities, including the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, Butte Creek Ecological Preserve, the CSU Chico Vertebrate Museum, a stockroom, greenhouses, and the CSU Chico Herbarium.
