The University of North Carolina Asheville Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry to begin Fall 2022.  The successful candidate will have earned a Ph.D. in chemistry or related discipline prior to July 1, 2022 with content knowledge in organic chemistry and demonstrated teaching skills. Candidates with expertise in organic materials and/or polymers are encouraged to apply.  The Department offers an American Chemical Society certified major with inquiry-based student research experiences scaffolded throughout our curriculum.  Teaching duties will include 12 contact hours per semester in Organic Chemistry lecture and laboratory courses, with options to teach across the departmental curriculum, such as General Chemistry lecture and lab, Foundations of Biochemistry and upper-level courses in their expertise area.  In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to Departmental service and can have opportunities to engage in research and mentor undergraduate students.  Individuals with a passion for undergraduate teaching at an institution focused on the liberal arts are strongly encouraged to apply.  The appointment is for two years.

Over 60% of our students graduate each year having been engaged in this important learning experience and the University embraces the mentoring of undergraduate research as one of the highest forms of teaching. This commitment makes it essential for all faculty to be engaged in the current trends of their disciplines and this is demonstrated in the outstanding research and scholarship produced by the faculty. 
The successful candidate will be expected to teach 3-4 courses (12 contact hours) per semester, engage in service to the institution, the community and the profession, and ideally work with our students in some area of the discipline specific to their expertise.
