Mechanical Engineering Endowed Professor

Permanent, Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The Florida A&M University (FAMU) and Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering seeks applicants for an eminent scholar, at the rank of associate or full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME).  Current focus research areas of the department include Thermal-Fluids, Aeronautics & Propulsion, Mechatronics (Robotics), Magnet Technology and Advanced Materials.  This position is aimed at developing new programs in the broad fields of control, structural dynamics, and dynamical systems. Novel research concepts in the field of uncertainty quantification, artificial intelligence and machine learning within the field of mechanical engineering are strongly encouraged.  The position will be located at our main Tallahassee, FL campus. However, opportunities exist to build research partnerships and educational programs connected to our Panama City Campus Mechanical Engineering Program and the Naval Warfare Center also located in Panama City, FL. This position has the distinction of being the “St. Joe Community Foundation Endowed Professor.

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is a unique institution that combines two outstanding universities with overlapping but distinct missions – FAMU, the nation’s top public HBCU (historically black college or university) with FSU, the nation’s 19th-ranked public university and one of the State of Florida’s Preeminent Research Universities. As such we provide an outstanding research and entrepreneurship-based education to one of the most diverse student populations in the US.  Faculty positions at the college are tenured at either Florida A&M University or Florida State University, but all faculty have joint status at both universities. 

The ME Department currently has approximately 33 faculty, 85 graduate students, 361 undergraduate students and annual expenditures in excess of $6.5 million.
