Position Summary:
The Entry Level Database & Systems Administrator will report to the Director of IT Project Management and Strategic Initiatives and will be responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting databases, data structures, data flows, data queries, and systems that support applications with a focus on data integrity, reliability, and security. This position work as part of a team responsible for system patching, upgrades, cloning related to Enterprise applications, troubleshooting, and providing support to end users.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Administer database systems by providing support for database maintenance, patch management, and change management for enterprise applications.
  • Maintain database software through upgrades, patches, performance monitoring, and indexing.
  • Collaborate with University departments that maintain independent database systems.
  • Install, configure and setup database systems for new database applications.
  • Configure backups, ongoing monitoring, analysis, setup database maintenance tasks, and optimization of SQL stored procedures, application queries and database systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, connectivity issues, and security issues.
  • Identify and apply proactive solutions and corrective measures to minimize downtime.
  • Develop queries and reports from database applications and assist co-workers with creating queries and reports.
  • Provide system/application administration (access, support, troubleshoot issues, drive end-user training, and effectively communicate) for the assigned portfolio of applications, including but not limited to, Slate, Terra Dotta, The Housing Director, Presence, Ellucian Colleague, etc.
  • General - Perform emergency support services during evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support the 24 × 7 information needs of students, faculty, and staff. Contributes to the overall success of Office of Information Technology and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.



    Required Qualifications:
    A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. At least 1 years’ experience with database & system administration. The ability to communicate effectively, regularly, directly, and patiently with colleagues whose knowledge and experience range from technical to functional is essential. This position must possess the ability to think critically, work independently, and solve problems.

    Physical Demand Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to move about the campus. Position requires the ability to talk and to hear instruction. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Position requires occasional stooping, crouching, and bending. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Working conditions are indoor.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience in a higher education and hybrid cloud experience.
