Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and promoting success among a diverse student population.
This position will provide support and advising to students with disabilities, including conducting intake interviews, reviewing medical documentation, facilitating reasonable accommodations, managing cases, overseeing the logistics of the Testing Center, collaborating with faculty and key partners as necessary, and maintaining records and other administrative tasks. This is a full-Time position stationed on the Wellesley campus but will support the Framingham and Ashland campuses as well; will be expected be flexible with an on-campus and work schedule.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide support and advising to students with disabilities, including reviewing and evaluating diagnostic documentation, conducting intake interviews, and facilitating reasonable accommodations under the new Americans with Disabilities Act Amendment (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation applicable federal and state civil rights legislation;
  • Oversee the operations of the Testing Center including scheduling, communication with students and faculty, and managing proctor rotations;
  • Promote self-advocacy and independent learning in the college learning environment by assisting students in understanding their individual disabilities and exploring various methods of compensating for those disabilities (when necessary);
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with department needs, including but not limited to assisting with grant writing and reporting, collecting statistics, providing budgetary input, maintaining electronic and print records, and organizing office files;
  • Work with the Director and Accessibility Resources team to consult with students, faculty, administrators and other campus personnel regarding issues of disability. With the permission of the student, the specialist might discuss the individual needs of the student with relevant faculty members, administrators, and other College personnel;
  • Refer students to appropriate college services (e.g. Peer Tutoring, Reading and Writing Center, Math and Science Center, Health Educators, Psychologists, Advisors, Academic Department Heads, etc.);
  • Participate, as requested by the department, in conducting classes and workshops for the campus community on issues of disability in higher education, awareness, universal design, and learning strategies;
  • Participate in campus events as an office representative and assist with orientation and training of part-time learning and accessibility specialists;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in required discipline, or closely related field; with one (1) year experience and/or training that includes teaching, instructional technology or program development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Two years' experience in higher education, preferably in a community college;
  • Two years' background/experience working with students with disabilities at the post-secondary level;
  • Professional knowledge of current disabilities law, research related to working with students with disabilities, and cutting-edge technological resources for students with disabilities;
  • Basic familiarity with student information systems such as Blackboard and PeopleSoft;
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to establish rapport and build harmonious working relationships with people of various ethnic, cultural, and/or economic backgrounds;
  • Ability to establish productive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and to use discretion in handling confidential information;
  • Knowledge of FERPA;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; and
  • Strong knowledge of and commitment to the mission and student population of a community college.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: Starting salary range $58,320.00 to $69,398.00, in accordance with qualifications and experience and subject to classification and the collective bargaining agreement.
