The Assistant Director of International Admissions role is an integral part of the Syracuse University International Admissions team, responsible for supporting the implementation of the international strategic plan as it relates to assigned geographic territories. Activities will include outreach to all audiences (prospective students, parents, counselors, alumni, etc.); attendance at college nights and fairs; visiting high schools; conducting interviews; virtual events, and facilitating special programming to support the colleges and diversity initiatives.

The Assistant Director will also serve as a member of the Admissions Committee, evaluate credentials for admission, and render decisions that will benefit both the applicant and the University.

  • 3+ years’ experience in college admissions or a related field, including as a student employee or volunteer.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Assist the Director with the development and implementation of the strategic plan to meet international enrollment goals for the purpose of increasing undergraduate international students at Syracuse University.
  • Enhance the University’s presence and visibility among the various populations globally, with particular attention and expertise cultivated in assigned territory.
  • Supervise the coordination of international recruitment and admissions activities in conjunction with campus and field programs/activities and University schools and colleges.
Identify, recruit and enroll qualified prospective students from diverse backgrounds by providing students, parents and counselors with comprehensive and accurate information about Syracuse University.
  • Visit high schools (both in-person and virtually), attend college fairs, serve on college admissions panels, and conduct personal interviews.
  • Conduct admissions and financial aid programs, workshops, and seminars designed to inform parents, students, and other appropriate constituent groups of the nuances of the admissions process.
  • May participate in international travel in accordance with the University’s COVID guidelines.
  • Outreach and prompt follow-up to inquiries, parents and counselors throughout the admissions process in order to build relationships.
  • Participate in international virtual presentations and events.
Discriminately read applications for admission and demonstrate a strong understanding of the review strategy and aspirant profile for each school/college and applies appropriate judgment when rendering admissions decisions. Meets all numeric targets for review within specified timeframe.
  • Evaluate international credentials for admissions purposes.
  • Monitor decisions for students in assigned region.
  • Communicate with counselors and students to facilitate the completion of applications and the decision-making process.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to expense reports, tracking contacts, events, etc.
