Position Primary Purpose and General Duties:

Massey Cancer Center welcomes qualified candidates for the position of project manager. The project manager advises, supports, assists, coordinates, and collaborates on initiatives for the Massey Cancer. The position manages short- and long-term critical priorities, initiatives and activities, and represents the interests and priorities of the MCC Director and its leaders through effective communication, coordination and integration of objectives. This position requires balancing and influencing multiple competing priorities and individuals. Working with the CAO, Associate Directors, Directors, and faculty, the PM provides leadership and direction for change management initiatives, project management, and program development on behalf of the Center.

Additionally, the PM will oversee ongoing projects supporting the MCC Director’s agenda to ensure that all are effectively progressing according to planned objectives, established milestones, and measurement criteria.
  • Assist with preparation of CCSG application and logistics.
  • Support the Director of Center and Executive Director for Research Strategy in preparation of presentations for EAB and NCI Site visit. This includes developing collateral for the meetings.
  • Assist Center Director with preparation of presentations and relevant documentation for dissemination.
  • Assist with website redesign, review and content.
  • Work with Marketing and Communication s team to develop NCI designated cancer-focused content for reports, digital signage, newsletters, etc.…Will serve as subject matter expert for NCI designated cancer-related marketing initiatives and philanthropic efforts.
  • Work with Center Director to coordinate and review external EAB applications and written critique.
  • Assist with facilitating the Center’s strategic plan and ensure they are in alignment with NCI expectations including identification of resources, metrics of success, and scientific priorities
  • Work with MCC’s Senior Leadership Team to develop and coordinate the implementation of MCC Director’s initiatives, including highly complex, multi-division efforts.
  • Ensure frequent communications and updates to project stakeholders and leadership to enable timely and proactive decision making to support completion of project within scope
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions and actionable recommendations
  • Able to assess core business challenges and contribute to process improvements
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to synthesize complex information and requirements into actionable tasks
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential
  • Ability to proactively recognize needs and manage daily workloads and prioritization of projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff
  • Sound professional judgment and discretion as well as the ability to solve problems, prioritize tasks, respond to questions, and make decisions independently while also functioning as a leader in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited university or a minimum of 5 years of experience collaborating with a team of executives in a fast-paced, highly complex environment
  • Experience in project management and process/procedure development
  • Experience developing and writing professional communications as well as exceptional oral communications skills and phone etiquette.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite software including MS Word, Access, and Excel
  • Experience with G-Suite including google docs, google drive, google sheets, and google slides
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards:
  • CCSG Experience preferred
  • A graduate degree in higher education, public administration, or related field or work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree
  • 2 years of management experience in a professional office environment
