Assistant or Associate Professor of Health Policy and Addiction Studies

Penn State Harrisburg,School of Public Affairs (SPA),invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position in health administration at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Health Policy, effective fall 2022.

This position is part of the Penn State's recently launched, university-wide Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse (CCSA);, which strives to advance research interests and develop expertise within the broad areas of pathways to addiction, criminal justice, and/or spillover effects of substance abuse to families and communities. Our expectation is that our new colleagues will work actively to build a powerful inter-disciplinary community of scholars focused on illuminating the multi-level processes that give rise to addiction; designing, implementing, evaluating, and disseminating novel, evidence-based approaches for prevention of, treatment for, and recovery from addiction; identifying and ameliorating the effects of substance misuse on individuals, families and communities; and translating research findings into evidence-based practices, programs, and policies. The successful applicant can also work with faculty from across the University and beyond to translate research findings into economic and policy-relevant language and spur policy change.

The selected individual's duties will include faculty responsibilities in the areas of research, teaching, and service, and as well as providing leadership and vision for research growth in health policy and addiction studies. As a faculty member, the individual is expected to help build academic excellence. As a health and addiction policy research leader, the individual will be responsible for developing interdisciplinary research teams, organizing, and coordinating efforts to secure external funding, and performing health and addiction related policy research. Additional duties may include preparing and presenting reports, providing policy recommendations, and aligning activities with relevant strategic objectives of the College and the University.

Competitive applicants for the position at the rank of Assistant Professor will possess a PhD in health administration or a related field and strong potential for developing an externally funded, collaborative, interdisciplinary research program as well as the ability to contribute to the college's teaching mission.

Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor should have the same qualifications as the Assistant Professor, as well as a strong track record of scholarly achievement, external funding, and demonstrated success in teaching and service. Those who hold a J.D. only will not be considered for this position.

Penn State Harrisburg is located in Pennsylvania's state capital region near the Penn State College of Medicine and Hershey Medical Center.
