Organizational Unit Overview

The Department of Occupational Therapy is part of the largest College of Allied Health Sciences in North Carolina, which includes communication sciences and disorders, physical therapy, physician assistant, and biostatistics programs, among others, supporting a variety of interprofessional education opportunities. Within the Department of Occupational Therapy are 5 dedicated teaching and research labs with supplies and state-of-the-art equipment to meet the needs of the annual cohort of 26 students. Advanced technology (i.e., 3D printing, classroom video capture, virtual reality lab, interactive anatomy table) is available to support innovative instruction.

Job Duties        

East Carolina University invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor for a well-established entry-level Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program, with plans to develop an innovative entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. Faculty member responsibilities include teaching graduate courses, engaging in research and funding opportunities, advising graduate students in research, and serving the university and profession. 

Minimum Education/Experience  

  • Occupational therapist with an earned doctorate in occupational therapy or a related field (PhD, ScD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, OTD, DrOT)
  • Two years of clinical practice as an occupational therapist
  • Experience in scholarly activities within area of expertise

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation   

  • Eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in the state of North Carolina

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education    

  • Post-professional Doctorate
  • Clinical and/or professional experience in the following areas: mental health, behavioral health, or neurorehabilitation
  • Established record of research activities (i.e., presentations, publications)
  • Experience in supervising graduate student research
