Description of Position:
Diablo Valley College is seeking a full-time (38 coordination and counseling contact hours/week), tenure track academic position in Counseling to begin August 2022. The successful applicant will be well qualified to provide academic, career and personal counseling services utilizing a variety of counseling strategies/methods and teach department courses. Coordinate transfer services for the college and within the DVC Transfer Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to contractual duties that for this position will include the equivalent of 38 hours of coordination and counseling, all faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, in their departmental activities and in the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the counseling assignment may be in the evening program. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:1. Counseling students in the decision-making process and their exploration of alternatives for educational, career, and personal matters, especially those that represent complicated transfer situations or students that face additional barriers to transfer.2. Providing educational planning assistance for students with an emphasis on underrepresented and underprepared students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.3. Participating in transfer-related outreach with service area high schools and community groups.4. Serving as the primary source of information for students, counselors, faculty, and administrators for transfer issues, policies and practices.5. Managing Transfer Services resources and allocations in coordination with the department Steering and Dean.6. Coordinating resources, services, and activities necessary for transfer students in conjunction with Career Services in a co-located Career and Transfer Center, including but not limited to workshops, events, university representatives, classroom visits, drop-in services, online services, webpage updates, training and co-supervising student employees.7. Designing and implementing a campus marketing plan for transfer services.8. Leading workshops and group counseling related to transfer.9. Coordinating with staff at the San Ramon Campus for transfer-related activities including workshops and other events.10. Updating and implementing the Transfer Services Plan.11. Advancing student learning through exemplary counseling and instruction.12. Writing and submitting annual campus and state reports to advocate for ongoing service needs.13. Participating in department and college committees.14. Participating in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area (community college transfer and articulation) and effective student support.15. Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):1. Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling (please list degree);
OR2. Bachelor’s degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) (please list degree);
OR3. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential authorizing fulltime counseling;
OR 4. The equivalent. Desirable Qualifications:
1. Demonstrated commitment to student learning and promoting success of all community college students from diverse cultures, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and/or disabilities in an open access learning environment.

2. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development; innovation and improvement of counseling and teaching; and to assuming faculty responsibilities beyond the counseling department in a shared governance environment.

3. Demonstrated sensitivity and ability to meet the educational planning needs of traditionally underrepresented students from educationally diverse backgrounds and experiences.

4. Demonstrated experience working with students experiencing mental health issues.

5. Demonstrated technological proficiency using computer and internet resources to provide online and in-person counseling services and information.

6. Demonstrated experience managing and coordinating a student service with a focus on transfer success including service planning, tracking of student learning outcomes, and budget.

7. Demonstrated experience in large- and small-scale event planning.

8. Demonstrated experience providing effective informational workshops and presentations to groups varying in size, knowledge, and backgrounds.
