Position Summary
UIW is recruiting a Assistant Professor of Psychology with a specialty in Clinical, Counseling or Community Clinical/Counseling tenure-track, beginning August 2022. Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester.

The successful candidates will teach psychology in a variety of modalities, including some online instruction as necessary. Other duties and responsibilities include scholarship, service, and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the American Psychological Association's ethics code and the UIW Mission. Full-time faculty are expected to develop skills in serving various student populations including Latinx, veterans, first generation students and others.

Candidates with training and interest in teaching introductory and advanced statistics and research methods courses, in addition to teaching courses in respective area of specialization are preferred.

This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.

Full-time faculty are expected to be flexible and course assignments are based on student and department needs, so multiple course preparations are to be expected.

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate courses in Psychology consistent with the needs of the department.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Advise students and providing individual help to students during weekly office hours.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge to teach undergraduate courses in psychology;
  • Competence in the use of instructional technology;
  • Desire to collaborate with department faculty and students and those in other disciplines and innovate to support the mission of the University;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in psychological science and related fields;
  • Demonstrated active research program;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Earned Doctorate in Psychology or closely related field by August 1, 2022.

Required Work Experience
The successful candidate will have experience with undergraduate teaching, community service, and research.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialty in clinical counseling or related fields OR clinical, counseling.
  • Experience in teaching introductory and advanced courses in the specialty.
  • Experience teaching about substance use disorders.
  • Training and interest in teaching introductory and advanced statistics and research methods courses.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.
  • Experience and training in teaching online using a learning management system, particularly Canvas.
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations.
  • Teaching, research, or service reflecting values of social/racial justice and/or Catholic social teachings.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English skills are a plus.
