The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) seeks aMarketing and Events Coordinator who supports the Program Manager and the Deputy Director with on- and off-campus event programming, as well as virtual programming. This position takes ownership of all event-related marketing and communications and coordination of virtual programming, as well as provides assistance with the execution of the various programs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for:

  • The creation of invitations, descriptions, programs, and social media for events. Will be a liaison to marketing and communications team and collaborate on event marketing including, but not limited to, drafting copy for event online descriptions, drafting email invitations, assisting with creation and content of event brochures and schedules, and creating PowerPoint slides for events utilizing university and office branding.
  • Creating and executing contracts with vendors, hotels, venues and others as needed.
  • Managing inventory and buying suggestions for materials used as giveaways for events.
  • Creating/maintaining internal communications and tracking mechanisms for event information collection.
  • Working with the Program Manager and Marketing and Communications Associate on all virtual events. Will coordinate virtual programs that include diverse stakeholders.
  • For virtual events, adding events in school calendar, creating Zoom links, developing event guides, and creating slide shows.
  • Developing Zoom best practices by establishing a calendar and training staff and panelists.
  • Coordinating logistics for Advisory Board events, including travel for participants.
  • Serving as manager-on-call for select events or programs within events, as determined in concert with the Program Manager.
  • Managing inboxes for relevant programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Additional education may substitute for experience.*
  • Three years related experience required.

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Previous work experience in running large events such as conferences and virtual symposiums.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Some travel possible.
  • Some weekend and evening hours required.
  • Previous experience with CRM and project management software preferred.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Ability to maintain a calm temperament, even under pressure.
  • Ability to manage complex relationships in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to be comfortable collaborating, cooperating, and leading events and programs in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ability to be a team player who is excited to work within a marketing, communications, and events team to create and manage successful events.
  • Appreciation of the role that successful events play in the success of the Center as a whole.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Care deeply about CAAT’s goals and its mission.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for at least 3 hours at a time.
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.

Starting Salary Range: $17.59 - $24.80/hr (commensurate with experience)
