Reporting to the President, the Chief Advancement Officer is responsible for identifying and developing strategic partnerships and opportunities that will advance the mission of FNU. This includes coordinating relationship building to raise the profile and involvement of FNU in the midwifery and advanced practice nurse profession, among peer institutions, among mission aligned non profit institutions in the academic arena, and with high profile individuals or stakeholders. The Chief Advancement Officer works closely with the President to plan and implement a fundraising strategy to build the endowment and raise funds for the organizational budget consistent with the mission and purpose of FNU.  Primary responsibilities include designing and implementing the annual comprehensive fundraising plan, creating and implementing FNU’s strategic communications and marketing plan, and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet. This position leads a team that is responsible for the following advancement functions: development, alumni relations, external affairs, grants management, marketing and the FNU Courier Program.

Supervisor Responsibility

    This position has direct managerial responsibility and oversight of the Office of Advancement.

Duties and Responsibilities

    Develop and implement, monitor and refine,  in collaboration with the President and Advancement staff, strategic organizational initiatives to meet revenue goals, cultivate new prospects, and increase overall funding.  Identify, pursue, and cultivate strategic relationships and partnerships with individuals and entities designed to advance the mission and vision of FNU.
      Coordinates relationship building to raise the profile and involvement of FNU in the midwifery and advanced practice nurse profession, among peer institutions, and among mission aligned non profit institutions in the academic arena, and with high profile individuals or stakeholders. 
    Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies, including managing the organization's major giving and recognized donor program.
      Manage the organization’s donor pipeline including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects for FNU’s fundraising priorities and oversee others’ cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities, while providing timely reports on activities.
    Utilize best practice to oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of all annual, special, and capital fundraising campaign activities, including events and programs, committee meetings, marketing, and progress reports, to meet fundraising goals.   Secure major, capital, and planned gifts, as well as advanced annual gifts and endowment support.   Oversee federal and private grants programs including research, proposals, grants administration and reporting. Manage the direction and coordination of the Leadership Council relationships, including collaborating on sponsorships and associated fundraising activities. Create and direct the planned giving program, including preparation of outright and planned gift proposals, development of marketing materials, and reporting. Responsible for the Office of Advancement’s overall budget. Collaborate with the Executive Vice-President for Finance and Facilities to identify and organize constituent and gift classification, reporting, and overall database optimization. Supervise the Courier Program Coordinator helping to guide the annual plan for the Courier program and develop strategies to engage former Couriers in the work of FNU. Oversees the  creation and implementation of FNU’s strategic marketing and communications plan, including print and digital communications, email marketing, and social media. In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Communication, develop and implement strategies to position Frontier Nursing University as a leader in distance learning for advanced practice nursing and midwifery and demonstrate the impact of graduates on the communities they serve. Oversee design, production and distribution of annual reports, newsletters, direct mail, marketing materials, signage and other marketing materials. Oversee public relations functions, including managing contract public/media relations professionals and developing key messages. Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet participating in institutional planning for FNU with a focus on developing programs that strengthen the profile and financial resources of FNU. Serve as the staff liaison for Advancement to the Board of Directors and the Advancement Committee.   Actively participate in the advancement profession to keep Frontier visible among higher education peer institutions.  Adhere to the elements of the Culture of Caring Provide service to the University through activities such as involvement in FNU shared governance (e.g. committees, workgroups), FNU sponsored activities (e.g. charity drives, community-outreach activities), and/or service to the profession (e.g. presentations, profession organization committee work).  Engage FNU’s goal of antiracism in all activities Periodically act as a representative of FNU in an official capacity. Other pertinent and appropriate duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities

    Required
      Demonstrated ability to build a culture of philanthropy within an organization. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate relationships. Proficiency in organizing and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment;

  • Customer service knowledge.
  • Additional experience in fundraising, donor relations, and marketing.

 

Education and Experience

    Required
      Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education required, Master degree preferred. Ten (10) years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising with a thorough knowledge of fundraising principles. Supervisor experience of a 3+ department and external consultants. Experience working with donor databases software and reporting.

  • Additional higher education or professional certification.

 

Reporting Relationship

    This position reports directly to the FNU President. 

Work Location

    This position will work primarily in Versailles, KY and is eligible for some remote work. Some evening and weekend work is required. In and out of state travel required.
