STEP Program Specialist (Granted Funded)

Salary: $43,547

The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time STEP Program Specialist in our College Pipeline Program Department. The STEP Program Specialist provides direct services to the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) students. This is a grant that introduces high-school students to STEM fields. The STEP Program Specialist assists the Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of the program.

Key responsibilities for this position include:
  • Fosters and maintains relationships with partner schools to facilitate the STEP program including but not limited to the delivery of services to both partner schools and at MVCC;
  • Mentors STEP students;
  • Engages STEP students to provide support services including but not limited to tutoring, study skills, and advisement with a concentration on STEM courses;
  • Assists STEP students with College processes, with a commitment to promoting MVCC and transition to MVCC CSTEP;
  • Refers and promotes relationships between STEP students, support services as well as STEM academic and business professionals;
  • Promotes retention and completion of high school diploma and encourages post-secondary enrollment at MVCC and relationship with MVCC CSTEP in order to provide seamless 7-14 support;
  • Assists STEP students with career exploration and/or post high school graduation or employment;
  • Provides life-skills coaching (i.e time management; communication skills) that fosters completion of high school;
  • Assists the Principal Investigator and Coordinator with STEP activities to ensure compliance as outlines in the grant proposal;
  • Monitors STEP lab to ensure that all necessary supplies and services are available to students;
  • Supervises STEP part-time student assistants;
  • Develops, creates, and hosts workshops;
  • Maintains program and student records;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of College Pipeline Programs.
Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a student support program
  • Ability to work with diverse student groups
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education or related field
