Job Description:
The College of Saint Rose invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor of Special Education in the Thelma P. Lally School of Education, beginning August 2022.
The Thelma P. Lally School of Education boasts thousands of alumni in educational and clinical settings throughout the world changing lives through expert teaching, therapy, counseling, and administration. The Special Education department is accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).
Responsibilities will include teaching 12 credits (3or 4 courses) per semester of graduate/undergraduate courses in Special Education from among the following courses:
SED/SIE 146: Individuals with Exceptionalities in Schools and
Communities
SEE/EDU 245: Curriculum & Instruction
SEE/EDU 360: Literacy & Literature for Young Children
SEE/EDU 380: Literacy/Literature for the Intermediate Grades
SED 517: Adapting Instruction for Students
SED 518: Childhood Methods in Math, Science, & Technology
SED 225/515: Foundations & Practices for Including Students
with Disabilities PK-6
SED 347: Curriculum & Instruction for Individuals with
Intensive Support Needs
SIE 365/515: Foundations & Practices for Including Students
with Disabilities 7-12
Additionally, responsibilities include contributing to the continuing development and refinement of the Special Education program, engaging in scholarship, attending internal and external events applicable to the College and the candidate's academic discipline, academic advising, program assessment, curriculum development, and participation in Department, School, and College committees.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) from an accredited institution in Special Education, or a closely related academic field, at the start date on August 15, 2022.
An ABD from an accredited institution, US based or foreign, in Special Education, or a closely related academic field, will be considered if the degree will be completed within 1 year from start date.
Additional requirements include expertise in one or more of the
following areas: curriculum and instruction in special education,
teaching reading, writing, speaking, and listening to students with
disabilities, foundations of special education and/or research
methods in special education.
The candidate's specific areas of expertise must include assessing,
teaching, and monitoring: (a) students with moderate and severe
disabilities, (b) language needs of students with disabilities, and
(c) behavior and classroom management for students with
disabilities. Minimum three years of fulltime experience teaching
students with disabilities also required, as well as a demonstrated
commitment to excellence in teaching, a record of scholarly work or
professional impact in the field of Special Education, superior
written and oral communication skills and, if selected to advance,
a successful demonstration of teaching ability and scholarship
during the on-campus interview.
