The Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) at Norwich University invites applicants for a full-time
assistant professor of health science, starting in fall 2021. Responsibilities include teaching 9-12 credit hours per
semester, academic advising, engaging in institutional service, and maintaining an active program of scholarship.
The department is particularly interested in candidates with strong teaching records and/or experience conducting
research with undergraduates. Teaching responsibilities will be primarily within the Norwich University Bachelor of
Science in Health science, which incorporates kinesiology, nutrition, and public health topics.

The successful candidate will have a passion for bringing excellent teaching into the classroom, with post-secondary
level teaching experience preferred. All applicants must have demonstrated commitment to working with a student
body that is diverse with respect to socio-economic status, culture, academic interests, and career paths.
Willingness to work collaboratively with other faculty is essential. We strongly encourage applications from members

Housed in the College of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Health and Human Performance (HHP)
includes degree programs in Exercise Science, Health Science, Athletic Training, and Physical Education. The
department averages 150 enrolled majors across the degree programs. Introductory courses are generally limited
to a maximum of 30 students, while enrollment at the junior/senior level, especially laboratory courses, is typically
in the low teens. The Athletic Training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic
Training Education (CAATE), and the Physical Education-Teacher Education program is accredited by the
Vermont Agency of Education's Results Oriented Program Approval (ROPA) process to recommend K-12
Physical Education teacher licensure. Full-time faculty members enjoy funding opportunities to attend
conferences, maintain membership in professional societies, engage undergraduates in research, and further
their own scholarship.

Requirements:

  • A doctorate in a relevant field (e.g. Health Education and Promotion, Nutrition, or Kinesiology)
  • A demonstrated ability to teach some or all of the following undergraduate courses: Health Promotion,
  • Foods and Nutrition, Health Science Research Methods, Epidemiology, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of teaching health science courses at the higher education level.
  • Experience with curriculum design.
  • Applied research experience incorporating undergraduate students in hands-on learning and/or research skill building.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Experience with academic advising and other institutional service.
