The College of Natural Sciences at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is accepting applications for an Advisor, Coordinator, and Instructor position for the College of Natural Sciences. This is a full-time 12-month, non-faculty exempt, benefit-eligible appointment.  This position will provide support for students in collaboration with the faculty and staff of the College of Natural Sciences and will lead, create, maintain, and implement recruitment activities for the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will advise students, teach first year seminar and coordinate student recruitment functions for College of Natural Sciences students. This professional will assist in recruiting, retaining, and tracking undergraduate majors as well as developing and maintaining relationships with academic, business, and industry partners who support recruitment efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Earned Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Student Affairs, Education or related field by start date plus 1-year full time experience (2 years of ½ time graduate assistantship may be substituted). Experience in at least one of the following is required: 1.) experience creating or leading STEM recruitment activities, 2.) academic advising, 3.) career advising, 4.) undergraduate student success initiatives.  A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.  Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills, organizational ability, demonstrated programmatic leadership skills, and information technology skills.

South Dakota State University:

Brookings:

It is 50 miles north of the Sioux Falls Metro Area, which has a population ~230,000, and has excellent air-connectivity. The Twin Cities and Omaha are within a four-hour drive of Brookings. Mount Rushmore and the scenic Black Hills recreational area, popular tourist destinations, are located on the western side of the state.
