Instructional Technologies Librarian

Earlham College Libraries seeks a collaborative and innovative candidate to serve as Instructional Technologies Librarian. This newly created position will join a small, cohesive team that is highly-integrated across the campus in promoting research in the curriculum and supporting the use of instructional technologies.

This position primarily supports residential undergraduate Earlham College students, but also several graduate students populations including the MAT/MEd programs and two seminaries (Earlham School of Religion and Bethany Theological Seminary). Undergraduate courses are primarily in-person, although with increased interest in flipped/hybrid content since COVID. Graduate courses are a mix of online (asynchronous and synchronous) and in-person.

This is a full-time, 12-month, 40 hours-per-week administrative faculty appointment. The annual compensation is $48,000 and includes a benefit package. Most work will be in-person during weekday office hours, with occasional evening or weekends, and opportunities for flexible working hours and some work-from-home.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Contribute to campus diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. Contributions may include work with the library’s LIFT program for first-generation college students, textbook affordability, assessment, collection development, or other actions that help the College move forward with its DEI goals.
  2. Provide support and training for the Moodle learning management system, Kaltura video platform, and other academic technologies in collaboration with an existing academic technology support team.
  3. Serve as a library liaison to academic departments within the humanities and social sciences. Conducts vigorous library outreach with campus faculty, students, and staff. Selects for, manages, and weeds the library collections.
  4. Demonstrate strong teaching skills, including the ability to develop instructional materials and present instruction to students and faculty, in individual classes and as part of a required course.
  5. Provide research consultations for students, faculty, staff, and other patrons.
  6. Collaborate with faculty one-on-one to match pedagogical goals with research and educational technology tools.
  7. Partner closely with colleagues in the Library, Information Technology Services, the Teaching and Learning Consultant, and other campus units.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in instructional design, library/information science, or relevant field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting learning management system(s) (e.g. Moodle, Canvas, etc.)
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • Knowledge of best practices in the design of online, blended/hybrid, and/or traditional courses.
  • Knowledge of new instructional technologies and trends in academic libraries.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others in a rapidly changing and demanding environment.
  • Ability to communicate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and an expressed commitment to uphold and further Earlham’s Diversity Aspirations Vision Statement.

As a member of the Earlham College Faculty, this position has responsibilities and privileges which include:

  • Participation in the faculty governance process;
  • Serving as academic advisor to first and second-year students;
  • Serving on faculty committees;
  • Eligible for professional development support and sabbatical leave;
  • Eligible to join the campus chapter of the AAUP;
  • Eligible to teach courses in the curriculum and lead off-campus program based on qualifications and experience.
