The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomes applications and nominations for the position of Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (VPAA).
  REPORTS TO: Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs   SALARY RANGE: $140,000.00 to $160,000.00, depending upon qualifications.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The VPAA supports the Provost in strategically leading and managing all aspects of the University’s academic areas. This includes, but is not limited to academic policies, program development, assessment of student learning/institutional effectiveness, faculty development, academic initiatives, online programs, and resource development.
 
The VPAA helps to lead collaborative efforts to advance the University’s Strategic Plan with accreditation agencies, business and industry, community-based organizations, educational partners, governmental agencies, and internal constituencies. The VPAA will work directly with the Provost, academic deans, administrators, and faculty and have responsibilities that span all University locations.
 
SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES: 
1.  Contribute to the creation and oversight of a comprehensive academic affairs strategy that is aligned with the University’s strategic plan.
2.  Facilitate the planning, organization, implementation, tracking, and archiving of complex academic processes, projects, and reporting.
3.  Oversee the University’s Institutional Effectiveness System efforts.
4.  Support mandated reporting to the University of Texas System and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
5.  Support the Provost’s role as the University’s liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to ensure compliance and provide leadership and guidance regarding accreditation policies and procedures.
6.  Provide leadership for other external accreditation efforts (AACSB, ABET, CATE, TEA, etc.) and work with appropriate program managers to ensure compliance and timely reporting.
7.  Monitor policies and procedures to ensure clarity and compliance across the University.
8.  Work closely with the Provost and University Deans in preparing and prioritizing budget needs based on available revenue and resources.
9.  Monitor program success and viability with respect to enrollment, retention, graduation rates, and student success; make marketing and recruitment recommendations to University Deans
10.  Assist in determining and developing new and innovative education opportunities and other relevant program initiatives.
11.  Assure new programs are properly reviewed and approved by appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
12.  Contribute to the creation of external partnerships with local industry and educational entities.
13.  Maintain the Academic Program Review System.
14.  Oversee the University’s Core Curriculum and its assessment.
15.  Support the assurance of academic program quality, teaching, research, and service excellence.
16.  Oversee all online academic programs.
17.  Engage in the creation of measurable and monitored faculty expectations and evaluations that align with the strategic plans of the university.
18.  Assist in the creation and implementation of effective faculty professional development opportunities and initiatives.
19.  Facilitate the development of Academic Affairs and University Policies.
20.  Handle all student issues and/or parent inquiries and petitions.
21.  Oversee Academic Affairs’ Communications and Webpage.
22.  Maintain professional affiliations and training related to functional duties (The Society for College and University Planning, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS), etc.).
23.  Represent the Provost and Academic Affairs on academic standing committees and selected committee meetings, ceremonial functions, and other meetings.

Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.   SCHEDULE: This is a full-time exempt position and the expected work schedule is Monday through Friday. As an exempt employee, this schedule will vary based on the number of hours needed to meet the job responsibilities. The individual holding this position will need to be available early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the office.
  CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. Once hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Employees must be able and willing to travel and perform duties away from campus as necessary and must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record.

2.  Demonstrated record of progressive academic and administrative accomplishment, including credentials that qualify for a tenured faculty position at the Associate/Full Professor rank.
3.  Experience leading accreditation/assessment efforts to a successful conclusion.
4.  Experience with the curriculum development process, including both degree programs and General Education requirements.
5.  Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
6.  Ability to utilize appropriate data analysis and statistical techniques to analyze assessment and institutional data.
7.  Ability to work independently and in a team environment to meet established goals.
8.  Ability to attend to detail and ensure accuracy of data and reports.
9.  Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, deans, faculty, staff, and students to ensure the advancement of strategic planning, student learning outcomes, institutional accreditation, and mission fulfillment.  
10.  Ability to travel extensively, both locally and nationally, as required for accreditation/assessment work
