Organizational Unit Overview

The Department of Kinesiology is one of six academic units in the College of Health and Human Performance offering seven degree programs: BS in Exercise Physiology, BS in Health Fitness Specialist, BS in Physical Education, BS in Sports Studies, MAEd in Physical Education, MS in Kinesiology and a PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science, with near 1300 majors and over 35 full time faculty. Our internationally known faculty are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and successful in both extramural funded research and innovative teaching. They enthusiastically engage our students in and out of the classroom through interactive lectures, research collaboration, community service projects, as well as other activities. Our distinct research labs support our academic programs as well as provide opportunities for faculty and student research. Faculty and students conduct research in fields related to Exercise Physiology, Cellular Physiology, Biomechanics and Motor Control, Adapted Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport Management, and Pedagogy.

Job Duties              

East Carolina University seeks to fill a nine-month fixed-term appointment in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health and Human Performance. The intended start date for the successful candidate is August 2022.

The successful candidate will coordinate and teach within the Sport Studies Degree Program housed within the Department of Kinesiology.  The Sport Studies major currently has over 250 intended and declared majors who wish to work in the sport industry and other sport-related fields.  Position responsibilities include scheduling classes; coordinating course and program evaluation efforts; curriculum development, student mentorship, internship supervision and academic advising. Classroom, online and activity-based instruction is expected. Courses will vary based on expertise.

Contingent on availability of funding

Minimum Education/Experience       

A Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise and Sport Science, or related fields (such as, but not limited to, Adapted Physical Activity, Exercise & Sport Psychology, Human Performance, Movement Studies, Physical Education, Sports Management, and Sports Studies).

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education           

Experience teaching sport marketing, event management, and sport finance is preferred.  Experience working within the sport industry, sport organizations, or intercollegiate athletic departments also preferred.

 Salary is competitive and commensurate with achievement and experience. It is expected that this position will begin August 16, 2022.
