Job Description

GROW (Getting Rid Of Weeds; https://growiwm.org/) is a publicly led network coordinating research and outreach, providing science-based information and decision support tools to make agriculture more sustainable and precise. We work to develop integrated weed management solutions that are practical and adoptable.

We are seeking a full time GROW Outreach Manager. The successful candidate will lead GROW into a nationally recognized platform of distilled, universal weed management principles with a target audience of farmers, crop consultants, agronomists, and other on-farm decision makers. Specific duties include: 1) coordinate content creation of various resources (website, videos, case studies, webinars, bulletins, etc.) by creating or delegating and give final approval for publishing, 2) manage GROW’s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube), 3) lead weekly Extension and outreach meetings and monthly GROW leadership meetings, 4) lead podcast production, 5) presence at national or regional farmer focused events and field days. GROW’s Extension and outreach activities are supported by GROW faculty team members at various institutions across the US and a full-time staff position in charge of content acquisition and drafting.

Required Qualifications

A 4-year degree in Agricultural Communications, Journalism, or closely related field is expected with significant, relevant experience. Candidates should have a basic knowledge of and commitment to integrated weed management in row crops and enjoy the challenge of working as part of a team on a wide variety of Extension and outreach efforts. Candidates must possess effective communication (verbal and written), administrative, and interpersonal skills. The abilities to build effective working relationships with colleagues and clientele, and to work as a member of a team are necessary. The candidate must be organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work remotely. Proficiency in the use of computer software packages such as Zoom, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and social media platforms is required. The candidate must have the ability to carry equipment, educational materials, and supplies. The individual must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to occasionally travel nationwide. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with a MS degree or at least 3 years of experience in Extension or a similar outreach role. Previous demonstrated experience in leading team meetings, writing articles and outreach content, podcast production, and other duties described above are desirable.
