Position Summary:

The School of Social Work at Jackson State University invites applications for a full-time tenured, 12 months position and MSW Program Director. The successful candidate will oversee and administer all aspects of the program (both online and on-campus), including classroom/virtual instruction; curriculum development; recruitment and retention of MSW students; and liaison within the School of Social Work and departments across the university. The MSW Program Director will work closely with the MSW Field Director on all issues related to MSW field placements. Additionally, this candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the program meet accreditation standards and complete assessment reports as required. The selected candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through their scholarship, teaching, and service. 

Minimum Required Education: 

An earned master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program.  An earned doctorate degree in Social Work or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.

Minimum Required Experience:

  • At least two years post-MSW full-time professional practice experience.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in Social Work Education.
  • Demonstrated administrative leadership skills.
  • Experience in course development using a virtual platform, preferably in Canvas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with CSWE accreditation and reaffirmation.
  • Success in attracting competitive research and external funding.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social work and field education.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations.
  • Experience in mentoring junior faculty members.
  • Evidence of a vision supporting a healthy and collegial work environment.
  • Must support and advance social justice in community and professional services. 

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications:  LMSW or LCSW (preferred or eligible)


  • Demonstrated administrative leadership ability in higher education. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as public speaking experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Demonstrated and enthusiastic interest in graduate education.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all aspects of the MSW Program and classroom/virtual instruction.
  • Course scheduling.
  • Student recruitment and retention.
  • Engage in scholarship, teaching, and service.
  • Primary department liaison or contact relative to academic advising.
  • Effectively manage program budget and other resources.
  • Lead the ongoing accreditation/reaffirmation process with CSWE, including assessment activity.
  • Contribute to curriculum development.
  • Collaborate with MSW Field Director to develop and strengthen partnerships.
  • Serve on School, College, and University committees.
  • Evaluate faculty and staff annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
