Position Title: Assistant Professor in Special Education

Position Description: The Department of Intervention Services & Leadership in Education in the College of Applied Studies at Wichita State University is seeking candidates to fill a 9-month, tenure-eligible Assistant Professor in Special Education. Primary academic responsibilities will be in the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will also contribute to the cross-disciplinary needs of the Department, including but not limited to (a) teaching graduate courses in the Special Education program (b) maintaining a record of scholarly productivity through peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and providing service to the profession, community, department, college, and university.

Required Education: Earned doctorate or ABD in special education (doctorate completed by August 2022) or related field.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Successful experience working collaboratively with teachers and school district personnel.
  2. Evidence of potential for establishing a record of publication and scholarship.
  3. Evidence of promoting and supporting diversity and social justice.
  4. Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.
  5. Evidence of communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and professionals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Three years professional-level PreK-12 special education teaching experience.
  2. Evidence of proficiency in the area of transition for students with disabilities.
  3. Evidence of expertise in teaching individuals with disabilities.
  4. Familiarity with online delivery of instruction.
  5. Previous university level teaching experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate courses in special education and supervise graduate candidates in field placements and capstone projects (e.g., portfolio, thesis).
  • Teach both traditional and non-traditional delivery options such as off-campus, evening, weekend, and online courses.
  • Establish and/or maintain a record of scholarship including refereed publications, presentations, and submissions to external funding opportunities.
  • Engage in appropriate service activities within the university, professional organizations, and  community agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with other faculty in teaching, program oversight (developing, assessing,  reporting), student advising, and service.
  • Develop relationships with partnership schools and community agencies as appropriate.

Starting Date: August 2022

Salary: commensurate with qualifications and expertise.
