LSSU seeks a dynamic assistant professor to teach acting, theatre history, and other theatre courses. The right person will be extraordinarily engaging with students, direct two awesome student productions per year, and have an entrepreneurial mind set. They will also have the ability to develop into a leadership role and perhaps be the Arts Center Director in the future. The room for growth in the LSSU theatre program is tremendous as we desire to redesign the theatre minor and build a theatre major. We are looking for a talented instructor who collaborates well and is creative and innovative in all aspects of the educational work we do. We have one faculty member who is all of this and more and we would like to hire another to join in the work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities and/or production work per semester.
  • Direct at least two student productions as part of the departmental season each year.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Arts Center events such as residencies.
  • Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
  • Participation in professional and scholarly activities as defined in Boyer’s Model of Scholarship, which includes the scholarship of teaching, application, discovery, and integration.
  • Recruitment of students.
  • Course and program assessment.
  • University/community service.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in a theatre discipline
  • Current record of professional acting experience
  • Outstanding teaching skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Desire and innovative/entrepreneurial energy to continually improve program quality and enrollment
  • Ability and willingness to collaborate well with students and other faculty

 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MFA in acting and/or directing or PhD in theatre
  • Strong evidence of professional production experience in acting and/or directing
  • Evidence of commitment to undergraduate teaching, research, and service
