NOTICE OF FACULTY VACANCY

Position: The Department of Music at The University of Mississippi (music.olemiss.edu) invites applications for Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Music to begin in August 2022. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Oversee the Master of Music in Collaborative Piano degree program, including supervision and instruction of graduate assistants in collaborative piano; teach courses in areas of expertise (collaborative piano – instrumental/chamber, applied lessons, piano pedagogy, secondary keyboard instruments, piano literature); design new courses specific to the degree, as needed; manage pianist assignments for studio lessons; coach chamber ensembles; collaborate with faculty, students, and guest artists for recitals and juries; maintain a strong performing profile outside of the university; and actively recruit graduate students. Additional duties include departmental and university service, as well as service to the discipline in the form of active membership in professional organizations. 

The University of Mississippi Department of Music’s mission is to prepare students for professional careers by offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education, performance and choral conducting; master’s degrees in musicology, ethnomusicology, and music theory; and a PhD in Music Education. Students entering our programs become part of a vibrant community led by a distinguished and enthusiastic faculty, with 25 full-time and 12 adjunct members dedicated to teaching, research and performance. Thus, our students (more than 150 majors) receive the rigorous individual attention necessary to develop their full potential in the superb classroom facilities of our newly-renovated music building. As a Department within the College of Liberal Arts, we are also committed to offering stimulating courses and performance opportunities for non-majors.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or Doctorate in piano or collaborative piano required. Significant professional activity, as well as university teaching experience, required. The successful candidate will be an outstanding performer of collaborative repertoire for both instrumentalists and vocalists, but with a greater emphasis on instrumental repertoire. The successful candidate will also be able to recruit talented graduate students for the Collaborative Piano degree program.

Note: all documents must be electronically submitted to careers.olemiss.edu, providing active links to Google Drive, YouTube, Dropbox, or other comparable platforms. No CDs/DVDs.
