Pepperdine University’s Seaver College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences is seeking applications for the Fletcher Jones Chair of Great Books. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a humanities discipline such as classics, literature, philosophy, religion, history or a related field such as political theory or social theory; a demonstrable commitment to excellent teaching, especially in general education; and an outstanding record of peer-reviewed scholarly publication generally commensurate with the rank of associate or full professor. The Fletcher Jones Chair of Great Books will be dedicated to providing direction and vision for Seaver College’s long-standing Great Books program. Additionally, the chair will contribute significantly to strengthening faculty recruitment, retention, and development for Great Books and allied courses. Key responsibilities will include teaching within the Great Books Colloquium, which includes a minor; providing consultation in developing and coordinating curriculum and special projects; and extending the global presence of Pepperdine University through public engagement. The chair will serve as a role model and resource for faculty who teach in the Great Books program both on the Malibu campus and in International Programs. This person will also provide leadership in assessing student learning and working together with faculty colleagues to adapt curriculum to meet changes in learning expectations.
